Story time

This morning I was walking out of my apartment behind a nanny and a little adorable baby toddler (who was wearing a pink tutu and pigtails on top of her head...I was dying). As the three of us were walking out, there was another nanny and another adorable 2 year old (also in pigtails) waiting for them on the sidewalk. The girls saw each other, squealed and then did a baby run to each other and hugged for a good minute.

I stopped dead in my tracks and just stood there watching as they cooed and squealed and hugged. After a minute they separated, started walking away, then both turned back, squealed and hugged again like they didn't get enough the first time.

I was completely frozen, startled by the cuteness and the innocence and the pure love shared between the little friends.

At that moment, I felt such a love for my friends I can't even describe it. I caught myself looking down and almost saying out loud to the toddlers "You guys, I know!" Because I totally knew how those girls felt- sometimes you just want to squeal and hug your friends tight and not let go.

Down the road, I saw 2 baby frenchie bulldogs wrestling on the sidewalk. As I turned the corner to continue on my way, I couldn't help but smile and think that there is honestly no better way to start the day....

Z-Tripping out

GBH.tv has consistently provided me a with slew of great nights since moving to NY. Their daily emails have kept me satisfied with hot parties, great music videos and often times, crazy nights of debauchery. Trusty GBH really came through on Wednesday night. Before I start tooting their horn too much I should say that the event totally and completely sucked. No biggie. I'll explain.

I love a DJ named Z-Trip. Do you like GirlTalk? Cool, Ztrip originated that shit. He is the father of the mashup. He doesn't tour, he doesn't play too many concerts. I've always wanted to see him live- very very rare to do. It turns out Z-Trip was DJing a private party for the launch of the new video game Hot Pursuit: Need For Speed at the Classic Car Club. Invite Only. Enter GBH. Ohh GBH. I love you. I want to make out with you.

GBH let me know about the event (Actually Robbie read about it first and alerted me. I want to put it on record that Robbie is a 100x bigger z-trip fan than me and was greatly missed on Wednesday night) and they provided an invite to the open bar event.

Well, the event was a disaster. Apparently, GBH wasn't the only promotor behind the night and it felt like half of NY was there. It also felt like the organizers had never planned a party before. Paulina and I were about 3 minutes away from storming in and taking control. We arrived 20 minutes early and there was already a line down the street and around the block. We finally got in about an hour later and it was sheer pandemonium in the form of long lines, loud video game displays and a weird combination of hipsters and hiphoppers. The free drinks were gross, the people weren't the classiest bunch I've ever seen but here's where the ranting stops and the happiness and exclamation points begin.

First of all, I went with the best posse I could have ever asked for. My ABC bff's- Emily and Paulina and Emily's friend (and my friend too!) Meg. We shook off the bad vibes of the weird event around us as I tried to explain to them that.. guys, this isn't just any DJ. He is an ARTIST. Copious amounts of blue vodka drinks, a police photo-op, and a few video game demos later.....Z-trip! Z-trip finally came on! He tore it uppppppp. Metaphorically ripped it to shreds. Side note: He sampled TechN9ne AND Atmosphere during his set- excuse me what? I freaked. Ztrip represented the midwest in NY.
It was pretty clear that there weren't too many people there that actually knew who Z-Trip was so there was this devoted posse standing around his little DJ table. Eventually, the posse turned into a full out dance party. A very, very sweaty dance party. We were in heels. We danced and danced and took pictures and had a blast. It was such a great time, with such great friends.

We ended the night with cheap pizza and beer at Crocodile Lounge followed by a big sleepover at Casa de Wilinsky.

Bathtub feet soaking due excessive dancing in heels.

A lovely night had by all. Brought to you by GBH.tv, Ztrip, and ABC News.

Can't get you outta my head

I just can't get it outta my head. I've been positively obsessing over a little trip coming up. When I say obsessing I mean...I have lists. I have music playlists. Packing lists. Food lists. Clothes lists. FOR A TRIP THAT IS IN JULY. I go to bed thinking about it, I am less productive at work because I'm day-dreaming about it. I tripped on a curb yesterday because I was thinking so hard about the sparkly bikini top and tutu that I want to wear (too much?).

Is it because I'm now a working girl and craving a vacation? Is it because I desperately miss my best friends and can't wait to share a tent with them? Is it because I just want to drive! with the windows down! and the music blaring! YES YES YES!!

4th of July+ Nateva Festival+ My favorite girls ahhhhhhh. Photo montage of my excitement below.

Zipcarrrrrr. We have reserved a Scion XB named Buhler. Gas, tolls and ipod dock included. Oh boy.

6 hours to Maine. Nothing but open road. Drool.

Insert us here.

And here.
And here.

And definitely here.

We'll be roastin 'dem weenies. Classic picture via google search "roasting weenies"

4th of July!!!!! I want to wear a whole red, white and blue, flag-ish outfit with glittery makeup but like hippy-ish camping/festival-chic style. You dig?

It's going to be a pure, insane, amazing weekend of straight happiness to the brain.

Obsessing, can you tell?

Missing home

I LOVE Jewish holidays. Love love love. They make me giddy. Holidays in general make me giddy...but those Jewish ones? Love love love. While being away from home totally and completely SUCKS, it does make you realize what traditions you really value. For instance: I knew I needed to buy plague masks to pass out at seder. Values, people. They're very important.

For four years the Jewish holidays at the Wilinsky house were a full out party. We might as well have had neon glow sticks and techno beats. Year after year, we were fortunate to play host to all of my friends who were unable to spend the holidays with their own families. We welcomed everyone around the table-clothed ping-pong table and introduced some of our traditions. I don't think we realized it at the time but by the end of college- the Wilinskys had built all new traditions with our new extended family.

During Jewish holidays away from my family and my extended family of friends, I desperately miss so many things. Ping pong ball props for hail during the seder, plastic frogs on the table, silly plague masks. My mom has a way of making every holiday feel electric and full of fun. One time my dad dropped the entire brisket upside down on the ground, then my mom picked up and and served the parts that didn't touch the floor. It was hilarious. Every year my dad asks if we want one [matzo] ball or two then announces he's a two ball man. Every. Year. It's all those little things that make holidays great.

For the first time ever, I'm making my own seder this year. My table seats four and my living room has a maximum capacity of about 6. But we're hosting a 13 person sit down dinner. It's going to be wonderful. I'll incorporate old traditions of the past with fond memories and a heavy heart and smile at the thought of brand new Jewish holiday beginnings with my family of friends in New York.

We set the table 2 days. We cooked in advance too. Is this what being a Mom feels like? Weeeeird.

How is this for improvisation?
