Snowpocalypse

In lieu of the impending Snowstorm 2010 here in NY I give you MY FIRST GUEST POST!!!!

This amazing post comes to you from Mr. Daniel Trope or as he is now to be known: Glitter Me This Washington Bureau Chief. Trope has been one of my best friends for ehhh about a decade. Things you should know about him: favorite snack is taco leftovers out of the Wilinsky fridge, does a show stopping shimmy dance move, best friend a girl could ask for...has a soft spot for peppermint schnapps.

This post is from this weekend where Washington DC was dumped with TONS of snow- Trope went for a little adventure on his snow day.

Snowpocalypse- The Dupont Circle Snowball Fight

This past weekend much of the mid-atlantic received it's largest snowfall in recent history. In the D.C./Baltimore area, reports put the snowfall anywhere from 20-30+ inches of snow, coupled with 20-30 mph winds. So an honest to god blizzard. While grocery store shelves went bare and a somewhat weather weak city braced for the storm, somewhere, some genius used the internets to plan a blizzicane celebration. Using facebook, the snowball fight at Dupont circle enlisted some 5,000 washingtonians (reports put the attendance at 2,000) to meet at Dupont Circle at 2 p.m. that Saturday and to let the madness begin.

I can tell you we got there at 40 minutes late but the snowballing was already in full force. For those who aren't very familiar with Dupont Circle, it's one of many massive traffic circles in DC that is almost a mini park centered around a large fountain. As we got to the circle, we found that the planned north vs. south metro battle didn't really coalesce. Instead what we saw was a select few brave souls hurling clumps of snow and ice from atop the raised fountain, with the rest of the crowd circled around launching their snow balls with reckless abandon.

I don't know if i can do it justice through my own description so i sent lara a bunch of photos that hopefully will give you a good idea of how fun this was. Penguin suits, robots, Santa, dudes without shirts, this was pretty much the highlight of the weekend. I guess it might be nostalgia, but there is something about a snowball fight during a snowstorm that is just makes me happy.
